As part of the incredible work done by Nurture Africa, local people are given the opportunity to become self-sufficient by opening their own small business. They are given training in business and a small loan to help them to get started. Some set up shops selling cold drinks, coal, food etc. Others set up hotels or farms. When they begin receiving an income, they start paying back their loan. They are able to develop their business further with help from other small businesses and Nurture Africa. They are given skills to help them to help themselves, a key part of Nurture Africa's work.
We were lucky to meet some determined and hardworking Ugandans who had set up small businesses with the help of Nurture Africa. While it may not look like much, these people have developed self-confidence, business skills, a sense of purpose and hope, and their income may be giving the owners and their families a chance at life.
