Library Outreach

After teaching in the morning in Kasengejje, myself and the other primary teachers were brought by bus down to Nansana, the town were the secondary teachers and medical staff volunteers were based. Nurture Africa's building was also in Nansana, and we all met here for lunch each afternoon. After food, we went off for group activities, e.g. Home Visits, Business Visits, Library Outreach.

Library Outreach involved volunteers going to other local Primary Schools which were affiliated with Nurture Africa and giving the children there a chance to hear stories being read, engage in games and oral language activities, learn songs, etc. The children loved seeing us come, and it gave them a confidence boost to engage with these activities, particularly those who were academically weak.

One school we went to was called Little Royals (perfect for a Co. Meath girl!), and they were a fantastic and enthusiastic group of children. The teachers were actively getting involved in our lessons and getting ideas on how to make learning more enjoyable for their pupils, which was lovely to see.
